Your Guide To This Week’s North County Concerts

This week, North County gets old genres with a twist. Whether its old rock ‘n’ roll updated with synth or jazz, ukulele-playing pop-folk, there are all kinds of shows for every type of music lover.

Victoria Vox – 2/10

Brick 15

Del Mar

A graduate of the Berklee College of Music (Songwriting 2001), Victoria Vox plays pop folk-jazz on her trusty ukulele.

Vox has appeared on the cover of Ukulele Magazine’s spring issue and on the front page of The Wall Street Journal as a champion of the mouth trumpet revival.

She released her 9th album When the Night Unravels in 2015. Stay tuned for her imminent 10th release.

Ristband – 2/10

Mr. Peabody’s Bar & Grill

Encinitas

Ristband is 4-piece rock ‘n’ roll outfit that plays a style ranging from “Elvis Presley to Daft Punk.” The group has a progressive feel, using synth sounds to accentuate solo-heavy guitar-work.

With three CD releases under its belt, Ristband pulls from a well-developed set list to get you grooving at any venue.

Inspired and the Sleep – 2/11

Pour House

Oceanside

North County’s favorite dream-pop indie band is at it again. Their ethereal sounds are grounded by great guitar-work and pop hooks.

This is frontman Max’s last hurrah before moving to Los Angeles. Inspired and the Sleep won’t be gone for good, but they’ll be harder to catch. Be sure to make this one.

The Brambles – 2/11

Brick 15

Del Mar

Despite being two young women, The Brambles feel that “on the inside, [they] are two, single old men.” Their folk Americana definitely has a weathered feel—their wistful, harmonizing vocals tell sad stories of the past.

Come celebrate the kick off of their “I’m With Us” tour at Brick 15.

Save Ferris – 2/12

The Belly Up

Solana Beach

Save Ferris’ name comes from 1986’s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but you may recognize the band from 1999’s flick, 10 Things I Hate About You.

An Orange County ska-punk band, Save Ferris is hopping back onto the scene after a 15-year hiatus. After California, the band plans to head to the East Coast, making this the band’s first full tour across the U.S.

Catch’em here before they disappear to the other side of the country.
