Sprinkled Throughout La Jolla Are 16 Murals Worth Finding

Over the past few years, you may have noticed a number of large-scale artworks popping up in various locations throughout the village of La Jolla. Some can be found big and bold – on the side of a building on a busy street, while others are nestled away in more discreet locations.

Currently, there are 16 murals worth finding.

And the arrangement of these mighty visual delights happens to create the perfect opportunity for that post-dinner date stroll, or even for your own Saturday morning walking adventure.

Snag the handy Murals of La Jolla map to create your own itinerary of stops.

Or if you’re quite the art enthusiast, join a guided walking tour led by project curator Lynda Forsha to learn more about the artists and their works created specifically for Murals of La Jolla.

Commisioned by the La Jolla Community Foundation (a branch of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library), the Murals of La Jolla project aims to bring more life and color (literally) to the village and its structures.

Since its launch in 2010, the project’s Advisory Committee – composed of greats like Matt Browar, Mary Beebe, Hugh M. Davies and more – works with incredible artists to find unique locations and achieve specific pieces of art that would suit them best.

“What’s interesting about this collaboration is that the leaders of our arts organizations have come together to create an outdoor exhibition that makes artwork accessible to a larger audience, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their presence in the village of La Jolla has sparked interest, appreciation, and dialogue” said Congressman Scott Peters.
