Here’s What You Can Rent For $1,500 In 7 San Diego Neighborhoods

It’s no secret that the price of home rentals in San Diego is on the rise.
Sure, our sweet city is not as pricey as, say, the astronomical rent in San Francisco or New York City… but it’s still one of the most expensive housing markets in the country.
While we totally get why the rest of the world is catching on to San Diego, we wanted to take a look at what you can get – for what price – before the masses draw nearer!
$1,500/month won’t get you big house, but you will be able to afford a modest one, or maybe two, bedroom apartment in many parts of the city.
Here’s a look at what you can expect to find for $1,500 in seven neighborhoods throughout San Diego, from downtown to the beach:
1. Ocean Beach – $1,475

Want to live close to the beach? This one bedroom, one bathroom apartment is located in a gated community just two blocks from the ocean and walking distance to the stunning Sunset Cliffs and lots of restaurants in Ocean Beach.
You’ll also enjoy access to the pool, an assigned parking spot and on-site laundry, but no pets are allowed.
2. Gaslamp – $1,500
Live in the heart of the city in this one bedroom, one bathroom apartment in the Gaslamp District. It may be on the small side at just 578 square feet, but you’ll be walking distance to Petco Park and lots of restaurants and shops.
The building offers gated access, a laundry facility and garage parking can be added for an extra $125 per month. Dogs up to 40 lbs are allowed, too!
3. Hillcrest – $1,475
We love us some subway tile! This 775 square foot, one bedroom, one bathroom apartment in Hillcrest has been recently upgraded to include a brand new kitchen with quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. Residents share a spacious courtyard and on-site laundry room.
The urban location makes it easy to catch public transportation or walk to many local restaurants and shops, but on the downside, there’s no parking available.
4. Pacific Beach – $1,425
What this 500 square foot studio apartment may lack in size, it makes up for in location and amenities.
Not only is it located just blocks from Mission Bay but the complex also offers weekly activities, like yoga classes, tennis lessons and more, and has a pool, two hot tubs and a movie theater room.
Gas, recycling and trash are included in the rental price and two dogs up to 40 lbs are allowed for an extra $50 per month (if you haven’t noticed yet, our furry friends are important to us)!
5. Normal Heights – $1,495
Hello, hardwood floors.
For a two bedroom, one bathroom unit, check out this 725 square foot Normal Heights apartment. The first floor unit includes a fenced back patio, hardwood floors and lots of storage space.
Unfortunately, there’s no parking available and no laundry on-site. Cats are allowed for an extra deposit and $10 per month, but no dogs.
6. Mission Hills – $1,450
Love that walk-up! If you want more privacy than an apartment can offer, take a look at this 1930 Craftsman-style granny flat in Mission Hills.
The 495 square foot stand alone home offers one bedroom, one bathroom and a private patio. There’s a washer and dryer located in the unit and plenty of street parking available. While it’s ideal for a single person, the landlord is willing to rent to a couple for an extra $100 per month.
7. La Jolla – $1,450
At just 400 square feet, this studio apartment may be on the small side, but it’s also just two blocks from the beach in La Jolla and within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants in La Jolla Shores.
The upstairs unit has a vaulted ceiling to help make the space feel bigger. It includes one parking spot, but no pets are allowed.
