Spend a Summer Evening at the Japanese Friendship Garden During Natsu Nights

The Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum in Balboa Park is hosting Natsu Nights, a summer night market series that transforms the garden into something a little magical after dark.

On select Saturdays from June through August, the upper garden stays open late with extended hours, discounted evening admission, and a rotating lineup of themed vendors and activities that change with each event. Wander the winding pathways, sip on matcha, and let the garden work its evening magic.

Natsu Nights summer night market series at Japanese Friendship Garden

Every Night Brings Something New

Each Saturday brings a different theme, vibe, and vendor lineup – making every visit feel like a completely new experience.

The series is designed to be explored at your own pace, with vendors running through the afternoon and discounted evening admission kicking in later in the day for those who want to catch the garden at its most atmospheric.

  • Kawaii Trinketcore Night – Saturday, June 27
  • Crafty Cuties Market – Saturday, July 25
  • Enchanted Curio Market – Saturday, August 22

Tiny Treasures and Collectible Cuties

Kawaii Trinketcore Night brings together creators of collectible cuties, Pokémon cards, charming smalls, and all the tiny treasures you didn’t know you needed. Whether you’re a longtime collector or just looking for an excuse to explore the garden after dark, this one delivers on both fronts.

A hands-on keychain charm making workshop with Tomo Charms is available before vendor hours begin – registration required. A Trinket Trade runs later in the evening with no registration needed.

An Artist Alley Come to Life in the Garden

The Crafty Cuties Market is an artist alley-inspired market featuring original artwork, handmade goods, stationery, washi tape, pens, journals, stickers, prints, and other paper goods from local artists and small businesses. Browse the booths, discover new favorite creators, and shop directly from the people behind the work.

A Junk Journal and Stationery Swap runs during the evening – bring sticker sheets, washi tape samples, scrapbook paper, or other journaling supplies to trade. Glue, pens, and scissors are available on-site for journaling.

Step Into Something Enchanting at the Curio Market

The Enchanted Curio Market leans into the whimsical side of things, bringing together vendors offering handcrafted goods, mermaid and cottagecore-inspired pieces, vintage decor, oddities, and curated art and antiques.

A fire performance by special guests from Haus of Dragon takes place during the afternoon, and a Mermaid Shell Frame making station opens later in the day – open to all with no reservation required, with a $10 studio fee to participate.
