A Night Worth Showing Up for
Byron Stripling‘s America The Beautiful: 250 marks the nation’s 250th anniversary with a concert built around the musical moments that have shaped the American story. It’s a program that spans a wide range: joyful, reflective, and full of energy.
The bill reads like a best-of for Americana – “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and the crowd-ready “Stars and Stripes Forever” all make the cut. These are songs that carry real weight, and they hit even bigger when a full orchestra is behind them.
A World-Class Cast
Byron Stripling leads the evening as conductor, trumpeter, and vocalist – a triple-threat performer who brings natural charisma to whatever stage he’s on. Joining him are vocalist Mamie Parris, Leo Manzari pulling double duty as vocalist and dancer, Bobby Floyd on keyboards, Rick Shaw on bass, and Reggie Jackson on drums.
It’s a live band performing alongside the full San Diego Symphony Orchestra, which means the arrangements are going to hit differently than a standard orchestral night.
The Big Bay Boom, Right After
Immediately following the concert, the Big Bay Boom – San Diego’s iconic fireworks display over the bay – takes over the sky. The Rady Shell’s waterfront position puts us right in the middle of it all.
