Stay At Home Challenge Encourages Animae Staff To Make The Most Of Quarantine

Like a handful of restaurants that have been affected by the pandemic, Animae announced this week that they would temporarily close because a member of their team tested positive for COVID.

Making the most of their time in quarantine and preventing food waste, the staff (back and front of house) are participating in Executive Chef Tara Monsod’s “Stay At Home Challenge.” Employees received a mystery box full of ingredients from Animae’s kitchen and are creating their own Animae-inspired dish and submitting photos and videos.

The top three dishes, based on creative use of ingredients, plating and video content, will be selected by Brian Malarkey, Tara Monsod (Executive Chef of Animae), Carlos Anthony (Executive Chef of Herb & Wood) and Sara Harris (Executive Chef of Herb & Sea). Animae will showcase these dishes on their Instagram account for the world to vote on the top two finalists.

Three of Animae’s Instagram followers who participate in voting will be invited into Animae to taste the top dishes in-person, and ultimately decide on the winner of the “Stay At Home Challenge.” The staff member whose dish comes out on top will receive a $200 gift card to any of the Puffer Malarkey restaurants and a Japanese Gyuto knife valued at $200.

Not only is it important to utilize the food that would otherwise go to waste while the restaurant is closed, it is also a fun way to keep the employee morale and energy up while they quarantine in their homes, and even inspire some new menu items. We encourage fans to follow and participate in voting as the dishes are showcased this week on Instagram.

Stay healthy, San Diego!
