City Tacos Founder, Gerry Torres, Becomes U.S. Citizen
Congrats to City Tacos founder, Gerry Torres, who recently became a United States citizen in a ceremony held at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in downtown.
Torres is originally from Mexico City and moved to San Diego in 1992. After working in various roles in the food and beverage industry in San Diego, Miami, and Hawaii for 22 years, Torres opened his first City Tacos in North Park in 2014.
He has since expanded to seven locations overall, including East Village (Ballpark), Pacific Beach, La Mesa, Encinitas, Sorrento Valley, and Los Angeles on the campus of University of Southern California.
City Tacos recently won 2022 Best Taco accolades from Ranch & Coast’s survey of its readers. It was the third year in a row winning the award. City Tacos also recently won Best Cheap Eats – Critic’s Pick honors from San Diego Magazine’s Best Restaurants 2022 list. It also took home Best Taco – Runner-Up from the readers of the publication.
An average of 8,500 tacos are sold each month across the seven locations. The top months have around 10,000 sold.
