Dining Out For Life San Diego Turns 20 – One Meal Can Make a Real Difference

There are plenty of good reasons to eat out on any given day. But once a year, dining out means something a little more – every bite you take at a participating restaurant helps fund health and wellness services for San Diegans who need them most.

Dining Out For Life San Diego is hitting its 20th anniversary this year, and the city is showing up for it in a big way.

Two Decades of Turning Tables Into a Force for Good

What started as a simple idea – dine out, give back – has grown into one of San Diego’s most beloved community fundraisers. For 20 years, this event has brought together local restaurants, bars, and cafés alongside thousands of San Diegans to raise funds for The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center).

A portion of sales from every participating spot goes directly toward The Center’s health and wellness programs, including HIV services and prevention programs that serve the broader LGBTQ+ community across the county.

With access to inclusive, affirming care becoming harder to come by in many parts of the country, events like this one carry real weight.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner – or All Three

One of the best things about Dining Out For Life is how easy it is to take part. Whether it’s a morning coffee run, a working lunch, or a proper dinner with friends, any meal at a participating location counts.

Dozens of restaurants across San Diego County are on board, so there’s a good chance your neighborhood spot – or that place you’ve been meaning to try – is already in the mix. It’s a solid excuse to gather your crew and make a day of it.

Where the Money Goes

Proceeds support The Center’s health and wellness programs, with a focus on HIV services and prevention. The Center is one of the largest LGBTQ community centers in the country, serving tens of thousands of San Diegans each year through direct services, advocacy, and community programming.

As funding for these kinds of programs faces increasing pressure nationwide, community-led fundraisers have become a genuine lifeline. Dining Out For Life is a reminder that one of the most impactful things we can do is something we were already planning to do anyway.
