It’s National Rum Day…Here’s Where To Drink Like A Pirate!

August 16th is National Rum Day, which means you have a hall pass to drink as many rum-soaked fruity cocktails as you’d like today! And our recent hot weather practically demands that you have one in hand at all times!

Lucky for you, San Diego has a lot of great options to help you channel your inner-pirate. Here are a few recommendations:

Miss B’s Coconut Club

There is no better place to raise a glass to National Rum Day than Miss B’s Coconut Club, an island-inspired bar and eatery located in Mission Beach. With quite the selection of creative rum cocktails served in everything from a hollowed-out coconut to a Collins glass wrapped in a palm leaf, the toughest part will be choosing what to order. The Rum Cannonball, made with a house rum blend, Trini rum, fresh lime, fresh pineapple, falernum, orgeat and demerara syrup, is a must-try!

Bali Hai

How could you have a National Rum Day without mentioning the Mai Tai at Bali Hai? Be careful…these things don’t mess around!

The Grass Skirt

The Grass Skirt has its own Rum Club, so you know they can support your inner-pirate just fine! While you’re there, try the World’s Largest Mai Tai!

JRDN Restaurant

What could be better than sipping a cocktail while you watch the sunset? The La Pina ($13) is summer in a glass and made with pineapple-infused rum, pineapple and coconut syrup. The pineapple juice for this cocktail is made in-house at JRDN fresh from the source.

Trust Restaurant

TRUST Restaurant is located in the vibrant neighborhood of Hillcrest and is the perfect spot for an after work cocktail and happy hour with friends. Sip on the TRUST Cocktail #14 with charred apple rum, cinnamon, lime and bitters.

Raised By Wolves

On a hot summer day like today, everyone can use a little shopping therapy and a cool cocktail to take the edge off! Raised By Wolves is just the spot. For a cool rum drink, try the Mr. Famous or the Rattlesnake Venom – you can’t go wrong!

Bencotto

Bencotto is known for turning out over 1,000 pounds of fresh pasta a week but they also make cocktails that are perfect for “aperitivo hour”, from 4-7 PM, Tuesday-Sunday in the bar. The Bencozy ($11) comes with spiced rum, solerno blood orange, lemon, pineapple, orange, falernum and fee bros bitters.

Hundred Proof

Hunderd Proof is located in their neighborhood of University Heights and is the perfect destination to celebrate National Rum Day. Sip on the Fosco Punch ($11) with Modern Times Fosco, cynar, plantation rum, lime and cinnamon.

Pacific Beach Shore Club

Pacific Beach Shore Club will be offering $10 Painkillers all day long, with $1 of the proceeds being donated to the Wingman Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing support to military families! Beach goers and those looking to soak up the sun on Shore Club’s patio can also sip the Mango Tango cocktail, a fruity blend of Malibu Mango, Malibu Pineapple, house agave mix, Mixwell Grapefruit Soda and bitters.

False Idol

These guys go through so much rum, they have rums that are made exclusively for them, like the Doctor Bird Rum in the Jungle Bird Cocktail below!

Havana 1920

Last but not least, stop into Havana 1920 for the feel of Old Cuba and any one (or two or three!) classic Cuban rum cocktails – a daquiri, mojito, cuba libre – they will all treat you fine! Or enjoy one of 100 or so rums on their rum menu straight up so you can really taste the flavor! The bartenders know their rum, so you can stumble out of there with some new rum-tasting facts that are sure to impress your other rum-swilling friends!
