Ariel Quartet Performs Final Concert Of The Complete Beethoven Cycle

In 2019, ArtPower and Ariel Quartet embarked on a four-year endeavor, performing the complete Beethoven cycle, in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday in 2020. On April 1, 2022, the quartet will perform its final concert, completing all 16 string quartets.

The evening program includes String Quartet in C minor, Op. 18, No. 4; String Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 74, no. 10; and String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 133, no. 17, Grosse Fuge. Distinguished by its virtuosic playing and impassioned interpretations, the Ariel Quartet has earned its glowing international reputation. The Ariel serves as the Faculty Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where they direct the rigorous chamber music program and perform their own annual series of concerts in addition to their busy touring schedule.

While the pandemic has cancelled two of the five live performances, last season, Ariel Quartet recorded six of the string quartets, exclusively for ArtPower. These can be found on the ArtPower YouTube channel. The April 1 concert is part of ArtPower’s chamber music series and takes place at the Department of Music’s Conrad Prebys Concert Hall at UC San Diego, with a pre-performance ArtTalk at 7PM at The Loft. Tickets are $45–59 and can be purchased online here. More information can be found online here.
