Get A Glimpse Of Life At Sea Staying Overnight Aboard The Star Of India

Wonder if you have what it takes to be a sailor aboard the Star of India back in the day? Now you can! The Maritime Museum of San Diego offers a unique opportunity to spend a night aboard the amazing ship with your whole family.

Our Living History programs aboard the Star of India, which primarily serve elementary school classes, have proven to be so popular that we have adapted the format to suit the needs of families in order to let the public participate in this exciting experience.

Although you won’t technically leave the dock, we will be embarking on an imaginary voyage to relive the lives and times of the many emigrant passengers in the Great Age of Sail.

We’ve done this before…and it’s an awesome experience!

Their instructors will be in character and in costume, teaching various activities such as moving cargo and raising sails. The accommodations are also 19th century and will be considered ‘roughing it’, so you’ll get a sense of what it was really like to work and live on one of these old ships!

If your family is adventurous, this is a very special trip and highly recommended!
