San Diego’s Halloween season comes with an invitation to become part of the show. Ghost Light Masquerade is an immersive evening of dance, theatre, and eerie encounters from The Rosin Box Project, where you step inside a ghost story and choose your own path through it.

Follow a spirit through The Nocturne Theatre, linger near the stage, or wander toward an unexpected encounter. The performance unfolds around you, and your curiosity decides where you go next.

With no formal seating, you share the space with the performers as the evening’s mysteries reveal themselves.

Follow Your Curiosity

The theatre’s Resident Spirits are your guides into a world of forgotten performers and lingering superstitions. You can follow them, gather around the stage, or explore another corner of the experience. Choosing where to look and whom to follow is part of the fun.

Everyone wears a mask and moves freely through the space, deciding how close they want to get, which in this room can mean a few feet from a dancer mid phrase.

And you decide how much you participate. Interacting with the performers is optional, so you can embrace an encounter or simply watch the action unfold around you. There’s room for both the adventurous friend and the one who needs a little warming up.

That setup turns the audience into part of the picture. Stand still and the action finds you. Move, and you see the night from an angle the person across the room never gets.

Contemporary dance, theater, and storytelling run together here rather than taking turns, so the night reads less like a program you sit through and more like a world you walked into.

A Theatre With a Ghost Story of Its Own

The show takes its inspiration from the ghost light, the lone lamp traditionally left burning on an empty stage. According to theatrical superstition, it keeps spirits away.

We like a Halloween plan that gives our curiosity somewhere to go. This one puts it in charge.

Seven Nights Only

The run is short. Seven performances total, all at the same start time, at The Nocturne Theatre on Imperial Avenue.

Dress for movement, because you will be on your feet and shifting position for most of the night. Masks are part of the deal, and the room is tight enough that where you choose to stand changes what you see. Consider comfortable shoes part of your costume.

Tickets are worth locking in early. Seven nights is a short window, and spooky season in San Diego stacks up fast once October hits.
