Feel the Fire of Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen at San Diego Civic Theatre
Alicia Keys is bringing her story to the stage, and honestly, this is a big one. Broadway’s Hell’s Kitchen is making its way to San Diego Civic Theatre for a limited run this August, and we cannot wait.
Built around new songs and greatest hits from the 16-time Grammy Award winner, the musical draws on her own coming-of-age in New York City. It’s already made waves on Broadway, and now it’s finally San Diego’s turn to see it live.
A Story of Finding Yourself
Ali is 17, restless, and searching for freedom, passion, and her place in the world. Sound familiar? Rebellious and stifled by an overprotective single mother, she feels lost until she meets a neighbor who introduces her to the piano and opens her mind to what she’s capable of.
Set to the rhythm of the 90s, Hell’s Kitchen is at its core a love story between a mother and daughter, about finding your purpose and the community that helps you get there. It’s the kind of story that sticks with you.
A Creative Team With Serious Broadway Pedigree
This isn’t just any creative team. Hell’s Kitchen is directed by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif, with choreography by four-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown, a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, and music by Alicia Keys herself.
That kind of lineup is exactly why the show has become one of Broadway’s must-sees.
Critics Are Already Raving
The New York Times named Hell’s Kitchen a Critic’s Pick, calling it “thrilling from beginning to end – a rare must-see!” That kind of praise doesn’t come easy on Broadway, so you know it’s the real deal.
For a musical built on Alicia Keys’ own catalog and her own coming-of-age story, that level of acclaim checks out. This is a show that resonates well beyond the stage.
