James Hubbell Unveiling and Film Screening at the Alpine Library
Delve deeper into the life of world-renowned artist James Hubbell and his magnificent works in a special screening event at the Alpine Library, presented by the Ilan-Lael Foundation.
The event will feature an art reception, a film screening of “Between Heaven & Earth,” and a ribbon cutting for the newly installed stained glass art piece.
The program begins with an art reception celebrating the debut of James Hubbell’s latest work titled “Rebirth,” a stained-glass art piece inspired by the sustainable and natural-like architecture of the Alpine library branch while also showcasing the captivating beauty of Hubbell designs.
Drew Hubbell—son of the artist, visionary designer, and leader of Hubbell & Hubbell Architects—will also be featured, showcasing his techniques for merging art and architecture to create mesmerizing masterpieces.
You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy a screening of the Ilan-Lael Foundation film titled “Between Heaven and Earth.” Directed by Marianne and Michael Gerdes, the film tells a powerful story of Hubbell’s lifelong journey of using art as a lens to comprehend his existence and share the world around us.
“Between Heaven and Earth” journeys through California and beyond, taking in a deeper understanding of some of Hubbell’s most iconic works through the perspectives of scholars, friends, and Hubbell himself.
Adding to the richness of the event, artist and stained-glass instructor at Ilan-Lael, Cindy Mushet-Shriver, will share her insights and experiences working alongside James for over 15 years.
Additional speakers include Alpine Library Friends Association President Angela McMahill, San Diego County Library Director Migell Acosta, and Christine Connell, who will introduce special guests from the Lambert Family.
