Show Del Mar’s Coastline Some Valentine’s Day Love With a Community Cleanup
The Del Mar Village Association and EDCO are kicking off 2026 with their first “Keep Del Mar Green” community cleanup, and they’re timing it with Valentine’s Day to make a point about caring for the coast.
This isn’t just about picking up trash for an hour and calling it a day. The cleanup spreads throughout the beach areas and nearby streets to catch litter before it reaches the waterways, and there’s a pancake brunch waiting for volunteers afterward.

Pancakes, Coffee, and Treats After the Cleanup
The Del Mar Lifeguards are treating participating volunteers to a pancake brunch, with treats and coffee donated by The Cottage and Better Buzz.
It’s a solid way to reward people for showing up on a Saturday morning to help out, and the breakfast gives the cleanup a social component that makes it feel less like a chore and more like a community gathering.
Del Mar ShoreSaver Program
The cleanup ties into the Del Mar ShoreSaver Program, which places cleanup stations throughout the beach to turn ordinary beach visits into opportunities for environmental action.
The baskets at these stations serve as temporary waste containers, making it easy for beach visitors to participate in cleanups whenever they’re at the beach, not just during organized events. Cleanup participants are encouraged to document what they collect so progress and issues can be tracked effectively over time.

Meet at the Lifeguard Headquarters
The meeting point is the 17th Street Lifeguard Headquarters, and the cleanup runs for an hour and a half. It’s a manageable time commitment that still leaves most of your Saturday open, and you get breakfast out of it while doing something useful for the coast.
See you there!
Community cleanups are one of those things that sound more tedious than they actually are, especially when there’s free breakfast and good company involved.
