Little Italy Salutes Our Heroes With Two Nights of Music Under the Stars
Little Italy is turning up the volume for Fleet Week Concert Series, and we’re getting patriotic in the best possible way. Two incredible military bands are ready to rock the neighborhood with performances that’ll make you proud to be an American—and maybe even inspire some air guitar moves!
Sounds of Service
The Navy Band Southwest Rock Band kicks things off with a mix that’ll have everyone dancing. We’re talking everything from timeless American classics to chart-topping hits, all with that special Navy flair that makes these performances unforgettable.
Then the Marine Band San Diego Sound Strike takes the stage for a powerful tribute to our service members.
A Tribute to a Hero
The Marine Band’s performance coincides with the birthday of one of our neighborhood’s most celebrated heroes: Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone. This legendary Marine earned both the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross for his incredible bravery during World War II’s Battle of Guadalcanal.
You can find his legacy honored right in Little Italy at Piazza Basilone, next to Civico 1845. This special memorial, dedicated in 2003, pays tribute to both GySgt Basilone and “The Boys of Little Italy that Never Came Home.”
See you there!
Little Italy Fleet Week Concert Series kicks off with two nights of musical magic: Sunday, November 3, at 6 PM for the Navy Band Southwest Rock Band, and Monday, November 4, at 6 PM for the Marine Band San Diego Sound Strike.
Both concerts take place in Little Italy. It’s a free, family-friendly event perfect for showing our appreciation for our armed forces.
