Rancho Resident Michael Lamb Turns Passion for Magic Into Immersive, Theatrical Experience
We love stories of the interesting people who make San Diego such a great place to live—and this is certainly one of them!
Local Rancho Santa Fe resident, Michael Lamb, is following his creative dreams and turning his passion for magic into an immersive, theatrical magic experience that will run for ten nights at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
Secret Art Installations Created in the Dead of Night
‘Us’ is an immersive, theatrical magic experience based on Lamb’s massive pop-up art installations he created throughout Rancho Santa Fe for his 50th birthday in 2016.
Over a seven-week period, Lamb and his family set out in the dead of night to secretly set up a different art installation each week at locations throughout the community.
The exhibits spoke of love, togetherness, understanding, and compassion. What began as an experiment that faced resistance turned into a coming together of neighbors, strangers, and newfound friends.
The documentary video below captures the intrigue and magic that his secret art created in the community.
Inspired to Create More Magic
The experience of creating these art pieces and their impact on the local community inspired ‘Us’, the unique and extraordinary magical event that Lamb has poured his incredible creative energy into creating.
Lamb began practicing magic at the age of 14 and has been a member of the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood for over 40 years.
After graduating from San Diego State University, Lamb founded and sold several companies and has just recently found the time to refocus on his talent and love of magic.
The project has clearly captured the imagination of others, and Lamb has assembled a world-class team of entertainment and magic professionals to help create “Us”.
- David Regal, head writer and co-executive producer of TV’s The Carbonaro Effect, writer for Everybody Loves Raymond, magic designer for TV, Vegas and Broadway
- Director Shanda Sawyer, 2 two-time Emmy winner, created and directed the Marvel Universe Live! arena show franchise, projects for Cirque Du Soleil and HBO/MAX
- Production Designer Beau Hoffman, whose work is featured on numerous Emmy-nominated TV shows, Norwegian cruise lines and Shanghai Disneyland
- Projection Designer Lianne Arnold, who has worked on designs for Tony-winning shows The Lehman Trilogy and Rocky: The Musical, and has received international recognition for her installations in Europe.
