The New Children’s Museum Unveils Artopia – A Creative Studio for All Ages
A big new chapter is opening at The New Children’s Museum with the debut of Artopia: NCM Creative Studios, the vibrant centerpiece of the museum’s expansion in downtown San Diego.
This exciting new 8,600-square-foot space will give visitors of all ages more room to think, play, and create with expanded gallery space, classrooms, and an all-new hub for hands-on art-making.

A New Home for Creativity
Artopia is a dream come true for creative families and aspiring artists alike. Located on the museum’s third floor, the studio is designed to welcome toddlers, teens, and adults with programming that spans painting, fiber arts, ceramics, sculpture, and more.
Try your hand at pottery on real wheels, explore new materials, and participate in artist-led workshops that invite imagination to run wild.
The space also features a fully equipped ceramics studio, complete with an on-site kiln, plus an Education Commons that will host school programs, teacher training, and early childhood development classes.

Celebrate the Grand Opening
To celebrate the opening of Artopia, the Museum is throwing a Grand Opening Celebration! Enjoy a ribbon cutting, special drop-in art activities (think ceramics, fiber arts, toddler-friendly sensory stations), and the chance to explore the new studio as part of your regular museum visit.
You can also be part of the legacy with the “ArtMark” mosaic wall, where custom engraved wooden tiles with names, quotes, or messages will become part of the space’s permanent art installation.
