Brush Strokes Go Global at San Diego Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition
The San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) is gearing up for its 44th Annual International Exhibition.
This isn’t your average art show—we’re talking a global gathering of water-based wizardry that’ll make your eyes pop and your jaw drop.
A Splash Heard ‘Round the World
This year’s exhibition is bringing the heat with a record-breaking 829 entries from 29 countries. The cream of the crop—101 artists to be exact—have made the cut, showcasing everything from classic watercolors to edgy acrylics and gouache creations.
Where the Magic Happens
You’ll find this watercolor wonderland at the SDWS Gallery in Liberty Station‘s Arts and Culture District. It’s like Disneyland for art lovers, minus the long lines and overpriced churros.
Show Me the Money!
With over $20,000 in cash awards up for grabs, the competition was fierce. Dean Mitchell snagged the $5,000 “Best in Show” prize for his “Tampa Bay Draw Bridge.”
More Than Just Pretty Pictures
Here’s the cool part: your art appreciation is actually doing good. Proceeds from the show help fund SDWS’s Community Outreach Program, which brought art to over 560 underserved kids, seniors, and former foster youth last year.
Get in on the Action
Can’t make it in person? No sweat! You can view and even purchase paintings online at sdws.org. Who knows? You might just snag the next big thing in water-based art from your couch.
See you there!
The party kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, October 4, from 5 PM to 8 PM. The exhibition runs daily from September 29 to October 31, 2024, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
