Bazaar del Mundo Hosts New Spring Pop-up
Diane Powers’ Bazaar del Mundo Shops in Old Town will celebrate spring with a tribute to beloved artist Laurel Burch and a curated selection of jewelry, fashion, and décor at the free spring pop-up, curated by Bazaar del Mundo.
Laurel Burch’s unique images and designs became wildly popular in the ’60s with her vividly colored feline images. While she passed away in 2007, her longtime fans continue to flock to the Bazaar del Mundo Shops, which still feature her whimsical designs.
Her daughter, Aarin Burch, will make an appearance to celebrate her mother’s 50th anniversary of the brand and showcase special anniversary items.
Spring Pop-up Highlights
Artists who typically make “art-to-wear” jewelry, accessories, and home décor will also be featured to show and sell their one-of-a-kind work, including:
- Kim Yubeta’s vibrant and eclectic treasure necklaces have been part of The Gallery for many years. She combines contemporary and antique elements, including semi-precious gems, charms, mementos, relics, and beads, to create exquisite, high-end, one-of-a-kind statement pieces.
A longtime resident of Tubac, Arizona, she recently relocated to San Diego County.
- Janet Pitcher’s floral designs are made of polymer clay, embellished with hand-dyed silk cord and Swarovski crystals, and framed with antique filigree metals to accent the floral designs. Her necklaces, bracelets, pendants, and earrings are all incredibly detailed and beautiful.
- Sue Titus makes “Cat Art for Cat Lovers.” A local artist, she hand-paints her original images on cards, coasters, t-shirts, and framed work, as well as beautiful wood salt and pepper shakers, bowls, salad servers, and more.
- Sheri Liebert works out of her studio in La Jolla and is best known for her bold, contemporary pieces, typically set in sterling silver with a variety of stones—natural quartz from Brazil, turquoise from Arizona, rare agates from Russia, pearls from Hong Kong and more.
Her pieces have been worn by celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lopez, and Melissa Ethridge.
- Jackie Brazil’s brightly colored resin necklaces, bracelets, and earrings are handmade in Brazil and are considered wearable art. Each item is unique, reflecting the color of Brazil’s lifestyle. All her jewelry is made under strict fair-trade conditions.
- Vicky La Jolla Fashion: Accessories features fashionable scarves, shawls, and kimonos
