The Stray Cats: The Band That Brought Rockabilly Back
The Stray Cats are the iconic trio that brought Rockabilly music back to the charts in the early ’80s. Known for their striking 1950’s style, exaggerated pompadours, colorful tattoos, and undeniable musical talent, they’re a band that’s hard to miss and even harder to forget.
Formed in 1979 in Massapequa, NY, by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom, the Stray Cats have a rich history and a deep love for Rockabilly.
After starting out in New York, they flew to London in 1980, where the rockabilly revival was just starting to take off. The band quickly became a sensation with hits like “Runaway Boys,” “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut,” “(She’s) Sexy + 17,” and “I Won’t Stand in Your Way.”
