Cardiff Farmer’s Market Partners With We Clean Trails for San Elijo Lagoon Cleanup
Cardiff Farmer’s Market is excited to announce a special event in collaboration with the community cleanup organization We Clean Trails.
An Effort to Preserve Ecological Health
Taking place on Saturday, February 3rd at 10 AM, the event will bring together environmental enthusiasts to preserve the ecological health of the San Elijo Lagoon by removing trash from our footpaths and roadways.
Southern California’s winter months often bring increased rainfall, resulting in more stormwater runoff, erosion, and sedimentation. Additionally, litter washed into our waterways poses a grave threat to wildlife.
Our coastal communities, especially with the looming El Niño weather events, face the risk of ecological damage due to litter from roadsides and trails ending up in our vulnerable coastal lagoons. This cleanup event is a step towards mitigating these impacts.
We Clean Trails
We Clean Trails, a dedicated community cleanup organization, focuses on reducing local litter, which contributes to soil, water, and air pollution and endangers wildlife. Over a million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die annually due to plastic debris.
By facilitating this cleanup, they’re not only protecting our environment but also fostering a community of eco-conscious individuals. Learn more about them here.
See you there!
Participants will gather at the Cardiff 101 Information booth at 10 AM for a safety briefing before starting a cleanup loop around Manchester Avenue and the San Elijo Lagoon.
To show their appreciation for this project, each volunteer will receive a complimentary gluten-free protein bar from Island Girl Bakes, an 8oz cup of “Six Summit Blend” coffee from TrailBlend Coffee, and a Cardiff Farmer’s Market tote bag to encourage sustainable shopping.
Join us for this special San Elijo Lagoon cleanup event to protect our coastal environment and help keep Cardiff Clean!
See you there, San Diego!
