Some Heroes Sew: Fashion Week San Diego Designers Create Face Masks

In these trying times, a definite boost in our spirit would be hearing stories about San Diegans giving back to the community no matter how little or massive it is. Well, here’s one for you – Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) made an effort of designing masks for healthcare workers and the general public!

More than a dozen of FWSD designers, both past and present, have devoted their quarantine time to making masks and filming DIY tutorials demonstrating how to make masks at home.

L Label Loves Emvee Bikini

FWSD 2020 designer Melisa Price has already donated dozens of masks to healthcare workers, crafted with donated fabric and extra bikini strings from previous projects. “I will be making more masks until I run out of fabric or until my fingers fall off,” said Melisa. She is currently donating masks to healthcare workers. Currently donating masks to healthcare workers. Contact on Instagram here.

Hulabelle

Local Hulabelle resort wear designer, Dana Dinerman, has ceased all operations to dedicate her time on making supplies for medical workers. Inspired by her husband who is a doctor, she aims to accommodate the severe shortage of face masks for our healthcare workers by crafting her own to donate. VaughnBerry

FWSD 2018 Top Designer, Bryan Vaughn, is helping flatten the curve in style by creating fashion masks with fun prints including Zelda, donuts, unicorns and more. The masks are double layered with an inner pocket for additional filtration if desired and are also available in children’s sizes. Currently selling masks to the public for $15 (use code ‘COVID’ at checkout for free shipping). Shop masks here.
