Feeding San Diego Joins Forces With San Diego Wave FC To Rally Community Support

San Diego Wave FC is showing its support for hunger-relief in San Diego county by partnering with Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger relief organization, for a food drive. The fútbol club is asking its fans to bring food donations for Feeding San Diego to its home games on Sunday, September 3.

Attendees can drop food off at bins pre-game located at the southeast gate. The most needed items for food donations include peanut butter, soups, and ready-to-eat canned meals with pop-tops.

“This initiative is hugely important to the Wave,” said Justyne Freud, vice president of marketing for San Diego Wave FC. “We are constantly focused on finding a way to use fútbol as a force for good in our community and we are grateful to join together with Feeding San Diego to fight food insecurity in San Diego.”

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Feeding San Diego, a partner food bank of Feeding America, has stepped up to serve millions of meals throughout San Diego County in partnership with its food distribution partners, which include charities, schools, colleges, faith communities, healthcare providers, and meal sites.

In its last fiscal year, the hunger-relief organization provided 35.4 million meals throughout San Diego County, an increase of 400,000 meals from its previous fiscal year. To provide year-round hunger relief resources to the nearly 300,000 people facing hunger in San Diego County, the non-profit relies on the generosity of individual and corporate donors from the community who donate both funds, food, and their time to volunteer.

“We are thrilled to be aligned with San Diego Wave FC and thank the whole club for its steadfast dedication to supporting causes that positively impact San Diegans,” said Ali Colbran, director of development at Feeding San Diego.

“It’s only with the support of our community that we can provide much-needed food assistance to people facing hunger in San Diego County. We call on everyone who can to get involved and give back to the many people in need of hunger-relief resources.”

In addition to the food drive, San Diego Wave FC will continue to support Feeding San Diego with other initiatives, including having staff and players donate time to volunteer regularly.
