First Friday Activities & Exciting Live Performances This Month At ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station
Springtime is the best time to enjoy everything arts and culture at San Diego’s largest arts and culture district, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The DISTRICT is home to more than 130 working artist studios, galleries, museums, and more!
This month, they have a variety of outdoor performances including music, dance, and circus arts – so make your plans to pay a visit!
FIRST FRIDAY
Immerse yourself in art this Friday with a variety of free activities and special sales from ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station’s artists. You can check out the full lineup of things to enjoy here with some highlights below.
- Apt 4 Music is hosting an evening of live music on the lawn outside of their studio in the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center from 4:30PM-7:30PM. The lineup includes performances by The Rightaway, Violet Drive, extended performance by Apt 4 Music’s very own, Joey and The Boys, along with special performances by Apt 4 Music teachers, family and friends. Apt 4 Music’s students will also take the stage to perform.
- San Diego Craft Collective is hosting a free kids craft, creating a special gift for Mother’s Day from 5PM-6PM. All ages are welcome to create a special hot air balloon card for Mother’s Day. Sign up here.
- Basin Street Brass Quintet will be performing a variety of genres including jazz, classical and patriotic on the Liberty Public Market Patio from 5:30PM-7PM.
- Barracks 14 is helping you with last-minute Mother’s Day shopping for jewelry from AG Ambroult, pottery from Rekindle Pottery, stained glass from Verre Designs, and fine art from Catherine Carlton and Nina Montejano. Plus, take advantage of their special Mother’s Day promotions.
PETER PAN CIRCUS PERFORMANCE
The magical story of Peter Pan comes to life at Ingram Plaza on Saturday, May 14 from 3PM-4PM. Art in Flexion and Sophia Isadora Academy of Circus Arts,
San Diego’s premier cirque studios and performance groups, will take audiences on a ride through the classicals tale through the form of circus art. From fairies flying through the air to mermaids swimming in the sea, this acrobatic adventure is a fun, free performance for the whole family.
JOIN THE TEAL REVOLUTION
In honor of World Ovarian Cancer Day (May 8), Clarity Foundation will be kicking off their Teal Revolution walk on May 6 from 4PM-7PM at Barracks 16. Come by and learn more about the Teal Revolution along with meeting a special guest artist and 14-year-old survivor, Annette Bennington McElhiney.
Plus, next door, Bilingual Kids will be hosting an interactive art activity for everyone who stops by. on Sunday, May 22 join Clarity Foundation for a Celebratory Walk in Liberty Station at 8AM. For more information, click here.
OUTDOOR DANCE PERFORMANCES
Malashock Dance will be debuting HORIZONS, a collaboration of live dance featuring choreography by iconic San Diego Choreographer, John Malashock, along with Miki Ohlson of Island Moving Company and Tristian Griffin of Tristian Griffin Dance Company on an outdoor stage in Ingram Plaza on May 26-May 29.
The performance features six phenomenal dancers from Island Moving Company and the renowned dancers of Malashock Dance Company in a versatile and stunning array of contemporary dance styles. This unique collaboration brings together celebrated artists from across the United States, to provide San Diegans with a highly memorable concert. To purchase tickets, click here.
