Back Your Crew: San Diego’s First Responder Blood Drive Has a Leaderboard
If there’s ever a good time to roll up your sleeve, it’s this one. The USPFC and the San Diego Blood Bank have joined forces for a community blood drive running across National Police Week and EMS Week – and it’s open to all of us.

How it Works
Law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel are at the heart of this campaign, but the whole community is welcome to take part. When donating at any San Diego Blood Bank location, just mention “USPFC,” “the games,” and the first responder agency you want to support.
A Friendly Competition Between Departments
That leaderboard is what sets this blood drive apart. Agencies go head-to-head based on donation counts, and everyone – first responders and community members alike – has a say in who comes out on top.
It’s one of those rare situations where doing something meaningful and a little friendly rivalry go hand in hand.
Perks for Every Donor
Anyone who donates during the campaign walks away with a Padres Summer Blood Drive T-shirt. First responders also receive an exclusive, agency-specific reversible woven tag keychain – a tangible thank-you for the people putting in the work every day.
A San Diego Original
The USPFC has been part of San Diego since 1967, founded by Police Lieutenant Veon “Duke” Nyhus with a mission to promote fitness, camaraderie, and wellness among public safety professionals.
This blood drive carries that spirit into the broader community and builds momentum ahead of the upcoming USPFC Games here in San Diego.
See you there!
Whether we’re first responders or just neighbors who want to give back, this is a simple and meaningful way to show up for the people who serve San Diego.
