Explore Nature and Give Back This January with Nature Collective
Nature Collective, a San Diego nonprofit dedicated to conservation and education, invites you to kick off the New Year with inspiring January events that connect you to nature while giving back to the community.
From wildlife tours to volunteer opportunities and family-friendly festivals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while making an impact.

Here’s what’s happening this month:
Wildlife Tour
📅 Saturday, January 11 | 9 AM to 11 AM
📍 San Elijo Lagoon
Explore the diverse wildlife of San Elijo Lagoon, home to more than 300 bird species. From dabblers and divers to rare visitors like the Little Blue Heron, every tour is a chance to spot something unique.
Recent rains may even reveal fascinating mushrooms like earthstars and turkey tails. Accessible trail; registration required.
Volunteer Orientation (Virtual)
📅 Friday, January 17 | 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Want to make a difference? Learn how to get involved with Nature Collective’s volunteer programs during this virtual orientation. Discover opportunities to help restore habitats, protect wildlife, and engage with the community. Open to registered volunteers ages 16 and up.
Volunteer Restoration Event
📅 Saturday, January 18 | 9 AM to 12 PM
Roll up your sleeves and join the effort to restore habitats at San Elijo Lagoon. Tasks include removing invasive plants and supporting the growth of native species to benefit wildlife and the local ecosystem. Family-friendly (ages 6+); registration required.


Wings Over Wetlands Festival
📅 Saturday, January 25 | 10 AM to 1 PM
📍 San Elijo Lagoon
Celebrate the birds of San Elijo Lagoon at this family-friendly, zero-waste festival. Enjoy bird tours, crafts, live animal presentations, face painting, and more. Kids 12 and under will love the bird-themed activities!
