House of Blues San Diego Celebrates 20 Years of Music, Art, and Legacy
For 20 years, House of Blues San Diego has been more than just a venue—it’s been a heartbeat of culture in the Gaslamp. Tucked inside the historic Woolworth Building, this dynamic space fuses music, art, and soul in a way that’s uniquely San Diego. The House of Blues San Diego history is rich with moments that reflect the city’s creative energy and diverse spirit.

A Building With Soul
Originally built in 1886 and renovated in 1922, the House of Blues’ home retains its Roman neo-classical façade with grey granite and intricate terra cotta details.
Inside, the venue is just as rich with character—featuring the largest permanently displayed collection of folk art in the country, celebrating the work of more than 150 self-taught artists. Many of them are African American, using their craft to amplify themes of racial equity, freedom of expression, and spiritual harmony.

A Stage for Legends
That same creative spirit extends to the stage. Over the years, House of Blues San Diego has built a reputation as a launchpad for legendary performers, including Adele, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Mac Miller, and Chris Cornell.
And it’s not just the stars of yesterday—emerging artists, genre-defying acts, and local musicians all find a home here.

Where Music Meets Community
From rock, jazz, and hip-hop to indie, soul, and Latin sounds, House of Blues continues to embrace diversity in every sense. It’s a venue where music and community intersect, and where each show—big or small—adds another note to San Diego’s cultural soundtrack.

Looking Ahead
As House of Blues San Diego celebrates its 20th anniversary, it remains a vibrant force in the city’s entertainment scene—a place where every night promises something unforgettable.
