A Butterfly’s Journey Brought to Life

Fukuyama’s installation, called “Transformation/Transformacíon,” isn’t just your average sculpture—it’s a love letter to the Monarch butterfly and its epic migration journey.

Here’s what makes this installation so buzzworthy:

  • It’s part art, part butterfly hotel: The sculpture actually provides a pit stop for Monarchs on their long-haul flights.
  • It’s bilingual: All the info is in both English and Spanish, making it accessible to more of our community.
  • It’s a triple threat: You’ve got the main metal sculpture, a special planting area, and educational signage all working together.

More Than Just Eye Candy

Lisa Johnson, the big cheese at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, is pretty pumped about this new addition. She sees it as a way to bring people and nature together, all while dolling up the neighborhood.

Fukuyama’s got some big ideas behind her work. She’s all about making art that everyone can enjoy, no matter their background. And with this piece, she’s hoping to spark some conversations about conservation and cross-cultural connections.

A Butterfly Effect on the Community

This isn’t just about prettying up the place (though it definitely does that too). Fukuyama’s installation is shooting for some lofty goals:

  • Creating a hangout spot for folks from all walks of life
  • Giving our endangered Monarch buddies a helping hand
  • Teaching us all a thing or two about these fantastic flyers
