Why Your Smile Matters More Than You Think: Invisalign Brings Oral Health Education to San Diego

We don’t always connect the dots between our teeth and our overall health, but turns out, they’re more linked than most of us realize. Invisalign recently hosted an intimate brunch at Malibu Farm with San Diego lifestyle and wellness creators Nicole Laeno, Tenley Leopold, and Chrissy Horton, and others to explore exactly that connection – and what they learned might change how we think about oral care.

More Than Just Aesthetics

Here’s something that might surprise us: over 70% of adults have some form of tooth misalignment they don’t even know about1. And before we write that off as purely cosmetic, misaligned teeth can actually lead to a cascade of issues – tooth sensitivity, receding gums, jaw pain, headaches, and even difficulty brushing and flossing properly.

When our teeth don’t align correctly, they put extra stress on our jawbone and create spaces where bacteria love to hide.

The health implications go beyond our mouths, too. Research shows that people with periodontitis (inflammation of the tissue around teeth) have higher rates of cardiovascular and auto-immune diseases. Meanwhile, straight teeth support healthier gums, better hygiene, and can help reduce those annoying jaw tension headaches many of us deal with.

A New Way to See What’s Happening

The star of the brunch event was the Invisalign Oral Health Scan – a technology that gives a comprehensive 3D picture of what’s actually happening in our mouths. The scan can identify cavities, tooth wear, gum recession, and bite alignment issues, creating a visual map of oral health that helps both patients and providers understand what needs attention.

For the creators at the event, getting to try the scan firsthand offered insights they didn’t have before. It’s the kind of preventive approach that fits naturally into a wellness routine, right alongside our regular workouts and healthy eating habits.

Making Oral Health Part of Wellness

Invisalign is continuing to partner with local San Diego creators to bring more awareness to the connection between oral health and whole-body wellness. The Oral Health Scan is currently available at select dental and orthodontic practices throughout San Diego for anyone curious about their oral health status.

See you there!
