La Jolla Music Society Offers Free Pop-Up Concerts At Surprising Locations To Celebrate SummerFest 2022

In conjunction with SummerFest 2022, La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) will present free pop-up concerts at various locations – including the airport! – around the city this summer.

These concerts feature LJMS’ Fellowship Artists and are part of the company’s extensive Education and Community Engagement programming surrounding SummerFest.

The 34th annual SummerFest returns to The Conrad in La Jolla from July 29 to August 26, with 20 concerts featuring the finest chamber musicians from around the world as well as jazz and dance.

In addition, 70 free Education and Community Engagement events range from open rehearsals and artists’ coachings to prelude lectures, artists’ conversations, and expert encounters.

As part of San Diego International Airport’s public art program, two concerts will entertain travelers at the airport on August 18 and 19, 2022.

The Aestas Trio | August 18

The Aestas Trio (Wynona Yinuo Wang, Sophia Stoyanovich, and Andrew Ilhoon Byun) will perform on Thursday, August 18 inside Terminal 2 at Sunset Cove.

The Pelia Quartet | August 19

The Pelia Quartet (Heejeon Ahn, Delphine Skene, Sung Jin Lee, and Nathan Cottrell) will perform on Friday, August 19, at Transportation Island. Both performances are from 11:30AM to 1:30PM.

First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego | August 19

Also on August 19, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego will present a SummerFest Community Concert featuring La Jolla Music Society’s Fellowship Artists, at 7:30PM.

This free concert inside the church’s Meeting House will feature both the Aestas Trio and Pelia Quartet in a program featuring works by Schoenberg, Janáček, Taneyev, and Ravel.

Seating is general admission with social distancing and masks required. Advance registration is required.
