Emanuel Ax, Wynton Marsalis Lead Star-Studded Events At La Jolla Music Society This January

La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) opens 2022 with a star-studded lineup of live performances at its world-class venue, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. From international superstars like Emanuel Ax, Wynton Marsalis, and Lang Lang to global artists, dance, jazz, National Geographic speakers and more, the new year is filled with eclectic programming and exciting artistic experiences in the heart of La Jolla.

January explodes with talent with world-renowned piano superstar Emanuel Ax in an all-Chopin program January 7 in The Baker-Baum Concert Hall, featuring an all-Chopin program of mazurkas; nocturnes; Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61; and the iconic Sonata No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 58, presented as part of the Piano Series.

On January 20, the Dance Series begins with the celebrated Alonzo King LINES Ballet performing a series of excerpts from their nearly forty-year history, showcasing stunning dancers and impeccable technique, creating an unforgettable dialogue between movement and music at the San Diego Civic Theatre.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by Wynton Marsalis, features fifteen of the finest soloists, ensemble players, and arrangers in jazz music today making its highly anticipated return to San Diego in two concerts, one at the Balboa Theatre and the other in the more intimate surroundings of The Baker-Baum Concert Hall. Both will present jazz artistry at its finest.

The Discovery Series brings us pianist Zoltán Fejérvári, First Prize Winner of the 2017 Concours Musical International de Montréal, on January 16, while the Global Roots Series continues with Trey McLaughlin & The Sounds of Zamar, one of the brightest and most prolific groups on the gospel scene, on January 29.

Finally, the Speaker Series kicks off with Hilaree Nelson in Nat Geo Live: Skiing the Dream Line. Hilaree Nelson, National Geographic’s 2018 Adventurer of the Year, tells captivating stories of the passion, grit, and teamwork behind summiting Lhotse, the fourth-highest mountain in the world, with Jim Morrison when they became the first people to complete one of the boldest ski runs of all time. This talk and Q&A is held in The Baker-Baum Concert Hall.
