Madison On Park Partners With Small Bar, Park & Rec To Build Patio

The beloved University Heights neighborhood eatery, Madison on Park, has extended its sophisticated mid-century modern design outside onto the parking spots in front of the restaurant to create a beautiful al-fresco street-side patio.

Helping to support their neighbors in this project, Madison built the patio to include space for Small Bar, which has been closed since June, along with cocktail bar Park & Rec. A true neighborhood gem, Madison’s parklet has added 25 seats for the restaurant, 20 seats for Small Bar, and 30 seats for Park & Rec.

Amongst the largest and most purposefully designed in San Diego, Madison took a thoughtful approach to the development of the almost half-block long patio. Designed and built by David and Anna Sindelar of Archisects, the original designers of Madison, the parklet is made of the same tongue and groove cedar and contrasting colorful geometric wood pieces as used inside, creating a seamless aesthetic which flows from the award winning interior to the new exterior space.

During daylight dinner and brunch hours, diners relax on the patio that includes built-in banquettes shaded by a pergola, while evenings are spent under cafe lights and the glow of the iconic University Heights sign.

Elevating typical street dining and rejuvenating Park Boulevard, Madison will continue to offer its Mediterranean and Southern California inspired menu, San Diego’s most innovative cocktails and unique wine program in the newly revealed outdoor space.

Madison will be open for outdoor dining serving dinner Tuesday- Sunday 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. and brunch Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. To make reservations for the parklet, make sure to choose the “Outdoor” option on OpenTable.

See you there…..and stay healthy, San Diego!
