MICHELIN Bib Gourmand CUCINA Celebrates California Wine Month

CUCINA urbana and CUCINA enoteca are hosting month-long California wine celebrations featuring carefully curated selections from the Golden State’s diverse wine regions.

Both MICHELIN Bib Gourmand restaurants showcase wines from Napa Valley to Santa Rita Hills, paired with signature dishes that highlight the complementary relationship between California terroir and CUCINA’s Italian-inspired cuisine.

Expert Curation From Regional Sommeliers

At CUCINA urbana in Bankers Hill, beverage director and sommelier Ethan Holbrook presents wines that embody California’s winemaking philosophy, including Sandhi Blanc de Noir from Santa Rita Hills and Orixte Sotelo Albariño that bridges Spanish traditions with California coastal freshness.

The Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon represents Napa Valley’s sustainable farming practices with Certified Napa Green credentials.

CUCINA enoteca Del Mar features beverage director Joseph Breslow’s selections, including Schramsberg Brut Chardonnay and Cairjn Vermentino from Paso Robles. His tasting notes emphasize approachable descriptions like “summer in a glass” that make wine selection less intimidating for casual drinkers.

Food and Wine Integration

The suggested pairings demonstrate thoughtful consideration of how wine enhances specific dishes rather than generic recommendations. Combinations like Hamachi Crudo with Albariño or Short Rib Mafaldine with Cabernet Sauvignon show understanding of flavor compatibility and textural balance.

The flexible pricing structure with 3, 6, and 9-ounce pours allows you to explore multiple wines without committing to full bottles, encouraging discovery across different varietals and regions throughout September.

The programming acknowledges California’s winemaking history, from Spanish missionary plantings in the 1800s to contemporary sustainable practices. This educational element adds depth beyond simple wine service, connecting current offerings to the state’s viticultural evolution.

Both locations offer distinct wine selections that reflect their individual dining atmospheres while maintaining the overarching California theme. The geographic diversity spans from Napa Valley classics to emerging regions like Paso Robles.
