Pacific Beach’s Newest Dining Destination, Mission + Garnet Is Now Open

After over two years of construction, the much-anticipated Mission + Garnet has opened. Located on the popular Pacific Beach corner bearing the same name, the eatery is a six-concept food hall from local restaurateur, Scott Slater. This all-in-one location intends to be a dining and meeting destination for locals, beachgoers and visitors alike.

“It’s a big deal taking over the iconic Mission + Garnet corner, a responsibility we don’t take lightly. Our ‘Mission’ statement here is clear and it’s to ‘Beat the Sh*t out of Mediocrity’,” shared owner Scott Slater.

Mission + Garnet food offerings

The openings will happen in two phases with four of the six food options opening first: Spitfire Tacos, Head Lettuce, Earlybird Breakfast Burritos, and Checkered Churros. Following the initial openings, Harvey Carver’s “whole meat” carved sandwiches and Scotty Dogs hot dogs will join the line up. The latter, Scotty Dogs, will serve out of a custom detached hot dog trailer.

All other food offerings will feature walk-up windows or fast-casual counter service. Outdoor seating is available on the wrap-around patio.

A standout in Pacific Beach

Mission + Garnet’s design was chosen to boldly stand out on the heavily trafficked Pacific Beach corner once home to Denny’s.

Slater collaborated with Livit Design and GTC Design for an exterior that mixes natural wood materials, striking black metal and bright bold pops of color. Hanging plants balance the hardness of the metal outdoor pergolas and will help to provide shade to patio diners.

“We intend for Mission + Garnet to revitalize this corner of Pacific Beach. We chose a clean and modern design, but wanted to also inject color and vitality to reflect our beach community. While this is a fresh start, our team has also taken painstaking steps to keep the iconic sign that has stood for decades,” shared Slater.

The rotating sign in question, which stands 30 feet high, has required extensive infrastructure updates to retain. The final Mission + Garnet marquee will be lifted to its new home later this month.

See you there

Early morning and late night dining options will be a cornerstone of Mission + Garnet, and means the space will be open nearly 24 hours. Mission + Garnet is a dog-friendly dining location. A grand opening celebration is slated for Spring 2023.

Mission + Garnet is located at 4505 Mission Blvd., San Diego, CA 92109. For more information, visit the website here and follow them on Instagram.

See you there, San Diego!
