Moniker Group Announces A Dual-Concept Creamery & Coffee Shop In Point Loma

Moniker Group announced that it had recently assumed ownership of The Craft Creamery in Point Loma, adding to its expanding hospitality empire.

What started in 2010 as a passion project to support local creatives, has flourished into an unprecedented mix of diverse holdings. Led by CEO Ryan Sisson, today Moniker Group owns and operates more than a dozen blockbuster businesses—including a cocktail bar and spirits catering company, a lifestyle retail brand, an interior design and fabrication studio, a construction company, an event design and management team, as well as a coworking space in Liberty Station.

When presented with the opportunity to bring one of San Diego’s (if not the country’s) most unique ice cream parlors into Moniker Group’s family of brands, the decision was a no-brainer for Sisson.

The Craft Creamery

The Craft Creamery offers “scoops on tap,” serving flavors from independent creameries across the U.S. Originally founded by local aerospace engineer Alex Bock in 2021, the ice cream shop’s unique business model was inspired by his appreciation for craft beer bars, whose tap lists stoplight the industry’s top talents.

Under Moniker, the Craft Creamery will maintain its rotating lineup, sourcing flavors from roughly 50 of the nation’s top creameries, including Molly Moon Ice Cream (Food & Wine’s #1 Best Ice Cream Spot in the U.S. in 2022), Petersen’s Ice Cream (Chicago’s old-fashioned parlor which opened in 1919), and Reed’s Dairy (a 1960s family-owned dairy farm out of Idaho).

“Sometimes you get to build the dream from scratch and sometimes you get to pick up and carry someone else’s. In this case we were asked to take a dream to what’s next and we’re honored and excited to do just that. The opportunity to champion small batch artisans from all over the U.S. and simultaneously offer San Diegans something totally unique and unprecedented in terms of a neighborhood scoop shop is what sealed the deal for me,” says Sisson, who will augment the 1,700 square-foot property with the dual-concept addition of Moniker Coffee Co.

Moniker Coffee Co. expands in 2023

Moniker Coffee Co. is the brew arm of the group’s flagship store, Moniker General, in Liberty Station. Having amassed a cult-like following in San Diego, Moniker Coffee Co. is looking to expand its horizons in 2023 with several new locations, the first of which will open in parallel with The Craft Creamery on Rosecrans Street.

The Craft Creamery will remain open through interior and exterior design upgrades, with a goal for Moniker’s full-service coffee shop to be operating on-site by February 2023. The location will integrate online ordering, pickup, and curbside delivery.

A forthcoming grab-and-go retail program will offer hand-scooped pints of ice cream, and a café menu will churn out sweet treats including affogatos, milkshakes, floats, and more.

Lastly, the addition of The Craft Creamery to Moniker’s portfolio will enable opportunities for collaboration with other San Diego-based restaurants, which may leverage the shop’s logistical operations as a distributor in support of the independent creameries nationwide.
