Nomad Donuts Adds Hot Breakfast To The Menu

Following months of recipe testing, locally-owned Nomad Donuts on University Avenue in North Park announces a new and permanent change to its menu. Most notably, added emphasis on nearly a dozen sandwiches served on Montreal-style bagels and the debut of a true breakfast menu featuring benedicts, scrambles and more gives guests a new way to enjoy breakfast in San Diego, whether dining in or taking it to-go.

Highlights of Nomad Donut’s expanded bagel sandwich menu include:

The Montreal Smoked Brisket, initially a limited-time collaboration with black-owned Coop’s West Texas BBQ following BLM protests. Now a permanent fixture, the sandwich is Nomad’s take on the famous Montreal-smoked meat sandwich with the team curing and smoking its brisket in-house.

Nomad’s Southwest Bacon Egg & Cheese with chipotle mayo and Pepper Jack and Croque Madame are created by chef Cole Pitchford, an alum of Herb & Wood and the former Urban Solace.

Meanwhile, the piled-high Kimchi Hot Chicken Katsu and Cubano sandwiches complement longtime favorites like Nomad’s House Cured Salmon.

Hot, hot, hot breakfast!

Nomad has also expanded beyond donuts and bagels to offer hot breakfast items. Choose between dishes like House Cured Salmon, Bacon or Root Veggies Benedicts served over a Nomad bagel, Bagel French Toast with country potatoes, and a selection of scrambles like the Brisket Machaca Scramble or classic San Diego Scramble. And after three months of recipe resting, Nomad has also debuted Poutine with brined fries, Wisconsin cheese curd and authentic Montreal gravy.

“I would lose my Canadian status if we didn’t do a great poutine,” said Brad Keiller, founder of Nomad and a seasoned traveler with triple citizenship between Canada, South Africa and the Unites States.

“We’re making food inspired by my years of eating across the world, and each dish has meaning. For example, our root scramble came from my surprise at how good Aussie food is, the Jersey Pork Roll from many work trips to Newark, and through our Montreal-style bagels and new poutine we reflect Montreal, my favorite city in North America. And on a local level, Urban Solace was always my go-to spot and a true North Park institution, and in honor of this we’ve snuck in a dish or two from their former menu, done in our own way of course.”

In addition to its savory menu, Nomad continues to create the eclectic donuts that put Nomad on the map and led the local shop to being profiled as one of the country’s best via the New York Post and Lonely Planet. Each month Nomad offers rotating flavors—many of them vegan—like Thai Tea & Peanut Butter, Lemongrass Yuzu with Shortbread Crumble and the one that started it all, the Ube Taro Coconut.
