Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or simply looking for healthier dining options, Flower Child is here to make your food dreams come true. The fast-casual restaurant, owned by Sam Fox of True Food Kitchen fame, opened in Del Mar’s Flower Hill Promenade on December 6.

As a resident of this area, I’m always on the lookout for something fast and affordable – but also healthy – to grab for an easy meal. Flower Child hits the mark!

The menu features many plant-based dishes, including salads, bowls, whole grain wraps and mix ‘n’ match plates. Of course, there are choices for the carnivores too! A protein can be added to any item, including all-natural chicken, sustainable salmon and grass-fed steak, in addition to the organic non-GMO tofu.

After taking a thorough look at the eclectic menu and getting the inside scoop on what makes the dishes special at Flower Child, we’ve narrowed the list to seven must-try dishes.

Enjoy!

Crushed Avocado Toast

It’s hard to beat the healthy simplicity of avocado toast. I make it a point to try avocado toast anytime I see it on the menu; Flower Child’s is good!

Mother Earth Bowl

For a protein and fiber boost, this supergrain mix is the way to go. The ancient grains, including red quinoa, farro and barley are topped with sweet potato, portobello mushroom and avocado for an extra helping of nutrients.

Broccoli pesto and red pepper miso vinaigrette add even more flavor to the bowl. Add chicken (as pictured) for an extra shot of protein.

Organic Kale Salad

By now, you’ve likely heard of the wonders of kale. Flower Child elevates the leafy green by adding pink grapefruit, organic apple, black currant, smoked almonds and white cheddar.

Top it with an apple cider vinaigrette, which is great for detoxifying, and you have one extra healthy salad.

Avocado Hummus

Love hummus and avocados? Flower Child has combined the two with this spin on a traditional hummus that blends the healthy fat of the incredible avocado into the hummus.

It’s served with house-made whole grain pita, which can be swapped for raw veggies at an additional charge.

Smashed Potatoes and Mac & Cheese

Mashed potatoes and mac & cheese are two of the ultimate comfort foods and Flower Child takes both dishes to the next level with their unique twists on these classics.

The smashed potatoes are elevated with roasted garlic and thyme while the creamy mac & cheese destroys any misconceptions about the quality of gluten-free food.

Try these sides as part of a mix ‘n’ match vegetable and grains plate or pair them with one of the proteins.

Whole Grain Wraps

Since all of Flower Child’s wraps sound mouth-watering delicious on the menu, choosing one is simply a matter of personal taste.

Regardless of which wrap you choose, the star of the wrap is simply the wrap itself. The whole wheat, flax and chia seed wraps are made in-house daily, ensuring their freshness and your happiness.

Lemonade

Flower Child offers not one, not two but three flavors of lemonade each day.

Two seasonal flavors are swapped out weekly but you can always count on their signature Flower Child lemonade, which features a rose petal infusion.

The next time you’re looking for a delicious, healthy casual dining option in North County, make the trip to Flower Child!

You won’t be disappointed!
