Smokin J’s BBQ To Open First Restaurant In San Diego

After two-and-a-half years perfecting their BBQ on the road, brothers Jeremy and Joshua George are opening their first restaurant, Smokin J’s BBQ, in Poway, California, open to the public on Saturday, December 14th, 2019.

Since its inception, Smokin J’s has grown from a one-man show bouncing around farmers markets to include three teams of smokers cooking over 50 events a month across San Diego County.

Smokin J’s has built a reputation trailing the tantalizing scent of wood-smoke and brisket across San Diego County, cooking at homes, offices, and festivals. The restaurant will boast a menu including all the classics; pulled pork, smoked brisket, burnt ends, baby back ribs, and smoked chicken, as well as mac n’ cheese, Cajun fries, fresh-baked cornbread, collard greens, smoked beans, and more. More information about the menu can found here.

Rotating specials will also be sprinkled throughout the menu. Jeremy, the owner and pitmaster, will create a “rib of the month,” as well as seasonal options like smoked duck and smoked turkey. Located next door to their beef supplier, Filhart Beef, Smokin J’s will also offer the unique option to bring in a cut of meat purchased from next door to be smoked or grilled by an expert pitmaster.

“It’s our goal to make our customers feel like they are the luckiest people in San Diego. Anything they need while here, we’ll make it happen, “ said co-owner, and pitmaster, Jeremy George.

At Smokin J’s BBQ, everything is made from scratch, in-house, with no shortcuts taken. Jeremy smokes his pork shoulders and briskets for 12-16 hours and uses a vegetable blend in his house-made sauce that has been smoked for 3-5 hours before getting mixed into the sauce.  The mac is made with a house-made, three-cheese sauce and even the spicy slaw is made from fresh-cut cabbage and a house-made slaw sauce.

“I’m looking forward to focusing even more exclusively on the food and creating new recipes instead of driving hundreds of miles and setting up and breaking down the stand twice a day. I plan on living in the kitchen once its open,” said Jeremy.

Smokin J’s BBQ is located at 14035 Midland Rd. in Old Poway Village. It will be open Thursday and Friday from 11am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am-8pm.

See you there!
