The 8 Best Places In San Diego To Rock Out With Some Karaoke

When the typical bar-going experience just won’t do and you need a little something extra (you know, some nostalgic tunes to bring you back to the good ol’ days where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases your blues away), we know just want you need… some Karaoke!

San Diego is loaded with bars and pubs – some upscale and trendy while others may be classic dives with character. However, only some will lend you their ears and let you sing them a song.

Here are the best places in San Diego to sing until your heart’s content – or at least go throw a few back while you listen to the others living vicariously through their rockstar alter egos.

1. The Lamplighter  817 W Washington St, San Diego, CA 92103

When we asked some friends about their favorite Karaoke spots, we got an overwhelming response for The Lamplighter in Mission Hills.

Food, drinks, and some pretty sweet Karaoke. Pretty simple and doesn’t get much better.

2. Karaoke 101 Lounge  7578 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92111

Karaoke 101 Lounge has ten private karaoke rooms perfect for the serious Karaoke-er, musical birthday party or fun private event.

You can also bring your own food.

3. Redwing Bar & Grill – 4012 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104

Redwing Bar & Grill, described by the San Diego Reader as a place where “dive-bar debauchery” takes place, is one of those classic spots where you go get a few cold ones with your buds while enjoying the company with those awful renditions of “Red Solo Cup.”

4. The Shout! House – 655 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

The Shout! House in San Diego isn’t exactly a Karaoke spot. It’s more like Karaoke on krack {sic}. They offer rock ‘n’ roll, sing-a-longs and dueling pianos!

How it works: Dueling Pianos are two piano players/singers at two, face-to-face grand pianos in front of two large mirrors performing the classic rock ‘n’ roll hits from the 1950s to the present. It’s request-driven by the audience and with the use of multiple teams, goes non-stop all night.

5. Cat Eye Club  370 7th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

The Cat Eye Club Cocktail Lounge & Tiki Bar in the heart of East Village is a retro spot inspired by the late ’50s and early ’60s nightlife. Check with them for Karaoke hours along with other nightly specials.

7. Rock Out Karaoke

Karaoke is great, but if you dream of being the lead singer with an awesome back up band, check out Rock Out Karaoke. The group puts on one of San Diego’s most dynamic live performances, combining the raw power of a live rock band with the fun of audience participation. Individual singers take center stage with the live band!

As of right now, Rock Out Karaoke plays at the 710 Beach Club in PB on the first Thursday of each month, and at House of Blue (upstairs) about once a month.

They also do private parties! You can reach out to the group via Facebook @RockOutKaraoke  or [email protected].

8. Tremont St. Bar & Grill  311 N Tremont St, Oceanside, CA 92054

If someone in your band is underage, Tremont Street Bar & Grill has Karaoke on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and all ages are welcome!

They draw a nice crowd, good eats and cold drinks.

So get up some liquid courage and sing your little heart out! You may be a little out of tune, but after a few cocktails, no one seems to care.

And if you get up there and get a little shy just remember… Don’t stop believing, you will survive, you are the dancing queen (or king) so just get up there and push it… push it real good, sweet Caroline, because good times never felt so good!
