Weekend Plans: 6 Awesome Things To Do In San Diego This Weekend

Congrats! You survived yet another work week and now it’s time to celebrate. Fight the urge to sit on your couch and watch Netflix for the next 48 hours. We live in a great city, so put your grownup pants on (and, yes, that means you have to take off your sweats) and go enjoy this wonderful offerings. Look no further for inspiration. We’ve got you covered.

1. Concerts

We have some great people coming to San Diego this weekend. Friday night offers Elise Trouw at Aztec Brewing Company and Jackie Greene at The Belly Up. On Saturday, we have Liz Longley and Brian Dunne at Brick 15 and on Sunday you can catch Stephen Rey at The Pour House.

2. Christmas Lights

Are you in the holiday spirit yet? Yes? Good. So check out these five neighborhoods with truly amazing Christmas light displays. This is perfect for a friends’ outing or even a first date. After all, who doesn’t love sipping hot chocolate, listening to Christmas carols, and checking out beautiful holiday decor? Yeah, that’s right: no one. (Well, except for Scrooge.)

3. House Parties

Okay, so we can’t ethically divulge the addresses of the house parties we’ve overheard people discussing at various Starbucks and dive bars, but let it serve as inspiration. Call up your friend whose apartment is the biggest and simply say “hey, you’re throwing an ugly Christmas sweater party on Saturday. See you at 8!” See? Easy. If you’re in need of some #UCS (that’s ugly Christmas sweater, for you novices) inspiration, look no further. We got you.

4. Dessert Date

So when most people think about a first date, they think drinks at some yuppie bar. But what if you could go above and beyond that (pretty terrible) stereotype and provide your date with drinks AND an amazing dessert (like, actual dessert — c’mon, man, get your head out of the gutter). These eleven places have truly to die for treats, so grab a few cocktails and then head on over to one of these places your date will be sure to never forget.

5. Ice Skating

Hotel Del offers the opportunity to ice skate on the beach. Yeah, you read that correctly. Just because we live in (the best city in) California, it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t get to experience the winter festivities found most everywhere else. Lace those skates up and get on out there.

6. Garden of Lights

Every evening in December, the San Diego Botanic Garden offers patrons the opportunity to come walk through their 37-acre urban oasis and check out the more than 125,000 holiday lights they have on display. Honestly, can you think of a more romantic date? Yeah, we can’t either.
