Your Guide To This Week’s North County San Diego Concerts

This week pulls together ‘80s and ‘90s nostalgia and some emerging singers and songwriters.

Whether you’re trying to relive the good ol’ days or are looking for a few fresh faces, this week’s North County San Diego concerts have some shows that are sure to be the highlights of your week.

The Dandy Warhols – 12/15

The Belly Up

Solana Beach, CA

Portland band The Dandy Warhols formed in 1994 because, as founding member Courtney Taylor-Taylor put it, the group “needed music to drink to.” From there, the band dipped into psychedelia and a BritPop-influenced power pop sound.

Relive the dream of the ‘90s and early 2000s with The Dandy Warhols. We may not be Portland, but we do have craft beer.

Matt Nakoa – 12/15

Brick 15

Del Mar, CA

Matt Nakoa is a Berklee College of Music alumni who went on to prove his musical chops by winning Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition in 2014.

After first completing school, Nakoa spent time playing piano in Manhattan’s famous Brandy’s Piano Bar, honing his songwriting skills for you to enjoy at this intimate coffeehouse.

Inspired & The Sleep – 12/16

The Pour House

Oceanside, CA

Inspired and the Sleep is a North County band specializing in psychedelic indie-pop. They sound like The Postal Service took some LSD and focused more on ethereal rock than electronica. Their music doesn’t just wash over you—it seeps into your insides.

But don’t take my word for it—hear for yourself, for free, on Friday.

The Young Guns (and Ugly Sweater Party) – 12/17

The Belly Up

Solana Beach, CA

Having trouble getting into the holiday spirit? Let The Young Guns get you riled up with some classic ‘80s rock while you and your friends sport the ugliest holiday sweater the thrift shop has to offer.

Dishing up everything that made ‘80s rock delectable, The Young Guns won’t leave you hungry for more—they’ll leave you ravenous.

Singers and Songwriters Showcase – 12/19

Brick 15

Del Mar, CA

This showcase will feature Ali Burress and Thor Sigurdsson, both singer/songwriters, but that’s where the similarities end. Burress is a 19-year-old songstress in the vein of Laura Marling, Damien Rice and Nick Drake.

On the other hand, Sigurdsson is a half British, half Icelandic acting/film production student at Chapman University. His influences are in his blood, literally: Scandinavian Folk and British Singer/Songwriters.

We’ll see you there!
