La Catrina Opens In San Diego

Transporting distinct flavors and style across the border, La Catrina Tapas & Cantina landed in North Park with festive fanfare.

The Best Mex In Town

This modern-casual bistro evokes a celebration of Baja California, featuring an extensive menu of colorful Mexican tapas, wine, beer and more. Taking the place of Tostadas on University Avenue, this new neighborhood eatery invites locals and visitors alike to enjoy bright surroundings as they munch on some of the best Mex in town.

Home to impressive lunch and dinner offerings celebrating the many tastes of land and sea, La Catrina’s Baja-inspired menu combines the authentic styles of renowned Mexican-born chefs, Brandon Rodriguez of Animalón, and lauded chef, Omar Ramirez.

Popular Dishes

With a focus on fresh seafood fusion, popular dishes include citrusy Aguachile Ceviche, their signature surf and turf Octopus & Carnitas with wild mushrooms and caramelized onions, unique tacos and shareable cazuelas paired with homemade flour tortillas. Entrees include piping hot 10 oz. USDA Prime steaks and salmon plates served on a hot block of Himalayan salt.

Vibrant surroundings and flamboyant accents reflect the Mexican culture that runs deep at La Catrina, coupled with a festive beer and wine selection featuring Mexican wineries and local craft breweries. Patio seating is available along with high-top bar spots and community tables for sipping and savoring each selection.

Open Sundays through Thursdays from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Fridays through Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM at 3139 University Avenue, La Catrina invites guests to celebrate authentic Mexican fare at its finest.
