Film Screening: The Age of Innocence At San Diego Museum Of Art
Set amidst the luxurious salons of New York’s elite at the turn of the 20th century (and featuring works by William-Adolphe Bouguereau, whose work is featured in the Museum’s exhibition “Bouguereau & America”), “The Age of Innocence” chronicles the emotional awakening of Newland Archer (Daniel Day-Lewis), heir apparent to an esteemed old family.
Archer finds his comfortable, well-ordered existence—including an impending marriage to the lovely May (Winona Ryder)—turned upside down by the sudden arrival of May’s cousin Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer), a divorcée who refuses to conform to the strict rules of New York society.
The Age of Innocence was directed by Martin Scorsese and winner of the 1993 Academy Award for Best Costume Design. 1993, rated PG, 139 min.
