Evokes passion and sparks the soul
“San Diego Ballet is committed to the presentation of work that speaks to our Southern California audiences,” said Javier Velasco, Artistic Director of San Diego Ballet. “These performances feature choreography that evokes passion and sparks the soul, celebrating both Jazz music and the dance equally.”
Get swept away as Southern California’s hottest Jazz musicians accompany San Diego’s most acclaimed dance company live in this unique venue. This year’s offering will feature the world premieres of new works by both composers:
- Mi Tierra (My Land) by Gilbert Castellanos is a deeply personal rumination on the artists and places that formed him as a musician.
- Bird by Charles McPherson is an ebullient composition that pays tribute to arguably the most influential jazz innovator of our time, alto saxophonist Charlie “Yardbird” Parker.
