A Vibrant Tapestry of Culture Comes to Liberty Station

The latest artistic marvel hitting ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station is “Interlaced,” a solo exhibition by San Diego’s own Christian Garcia-Olivo set to blow your mind and challenge everything you thought you knew about identity and culture.

Garcia-Olivo’s signature style is something to behold—sculptural paint skins that look good enough to eat, woven like the most intricate Mexican textiles you’ve ever seen.

Christian Garcia-Olivo

This queer Chicano artist isn’t afraid to shake things up. His work is a vibrant cocktail of cultural heritage, rebellion against the status quo, and a deep dive into what makes us who we are.

We’re thrilled to see The Hill Street Country Club bringing this powerhouse artist to one of our favorite spots in the city. Dinah Poellnitz, the mastermind curator behind this show, has put together an experience that will make you question everything—in the best way possible.

Why This Show Will Rock Your World

“Interlaced” isn’t just another art show. It’s a journey into the heart of what it means to be human in a world where boundaries are blurring faster than ever. Garcia-Olivo’s work is like a mirror, reflecting the messy, beautiful reality of living between cultures and identities.

And let’s be real—who hasn’t felt caught between worlds at some point? Whether you’re navigating your cultural roots, figuring out your place in society, or just trying to make sense of life in general, this exhibition speaks to that universal experience of not quite fitting in.

But here’s the kicker—Christian Garcia-Olivo doesn’t just highlight the struggle. He celebrates it. His art turns those in-between spaces into something magical, showing us that there’s strength in embracing the chaos of identity.

We can’t wait to see how this exhibition transforms Gallery 201. It’s going to be like stepping into a whole new world, one where the rules of identity and culture are turned upside down.

See you there!

Mark your calendars for the opening bash on Saturday, September 14, from noon to 4 PM.

Can’t make the opening? No worries. The exhibition runs from September 12, 2024, to January 10, 2025. Gallery 201 is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, so you’ve got plenty of time to immerse yourself in Garcia-Olivo’s colorful universe.

It’s the perfect excuse to spend a day exploring Liberty Station—grab a bite, do some shopping, and then dive into some seriously thought-provoking art. This is the kind of show that’ll have you talking for days.

So gather your crew, make a day of it, and get ready to see San Diego’s art scene in a whole new light.

See you there, San Diego!
