Sports Illustrated Brings Elite Women’s Competition to Oceanside

Sports Illustrated has announced the first wave of all-star athletes competing in the inaugural 2025 SI Women’s Games at Frontwave Arena this fall.

The six-day event features more than 120 elite female athletes including Grand Slam tennis champion Sloane Stephens, WNBA star Dearica Hamby, and flag football standout Diana Flores competing across six different sports in a Team Americas versus Team World format.

World-Class Athletic Lineup

The roster reads like a who’s who of women’s sports, with Olympic gymnast Jade Carey, volleyball player Jordyn Poulter, wrestling champion Helen Maroulis, and trampoline athlete Bryony Page among the confirmed competitors.

Each night focuses on a different sport, from flag football and combat sports to gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, and tennis.

Sloane Stephens captures the excitement perfectly, noting how Sports Illustrated has always celebrated women’s sports and expressing pride in helping drive that mission forward. The format creates genuine competition between the world’s best athletes while showcasing the diversity and skill across multiple sports.

Accessible and Engaging Format

The competition structure balances serious athletic competition with fan-friendly accessibility. Flag football opens with a three-game series using a point system, while combat sports features 12 matches split between judo and wrestling.

Gymnastics spans artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline disciplines, and tennis concludes with singles and doubles matches using eight-game pro sets.

ION serves as the exclusive U.S. broadcast home, making the games available both in-person and via television to reach the widest possible audience. Additional streaming options through Amazon Fire TV and Prime Video ensure fans can access the competition through multiple platforms.

Community Engagement Beyond Competition

The Frontwave Fan Zone, sponsored by Frontwave Credit Union, opens free to the public an hour and a half before each day’s competition.

This space features athlete meet-and-greets, youth sports clinics, premium partner activations, and local vendors, creating engagement opportunities for both ticket holders and the broader community.

Junior exhibitions before each day’s competition give up-and-coming local athletes the chance to compete on the big stage, supporting Sports Illustrated’s mission to encourage sport development for future generations. The partnership with Visit Oceanside demonstrates commitment to bringing tourism and excitement to the local community.

Inclusive Pricing and Access

Ticket discounts make the event accessible across age groups and communities, with 50% off for kids under 12, 25% off for military, and 10% off for seniors. These pricing strategies reflect the event’s goal of celebrating women’s sports while building diverse, engaged audiences.
