“Fragmented Stories”: A New Exhibition at Arts District Liberty Station

Arts District Liberty Station – one of California’s state-designated cultural districts – is opening a new exhibition at Gallery 201 this spring. It’s one to put on your radar. The Fragmented Stories Exhibition is sure to offer a unique experience for visitors.

A Curator With Deep Roots in the Border Arts Scene

Francisco Eme steps in as the newest Curator-in-Residence through the David G. Fleet Curator-in-Residence Program, curating the Fragmented Stories Exhibition.

A composer, multimedia artist, and 2024 San Diego Art Prize recipient, his practice weaves together sound, visual media, and community engagement. This happens across the San Diego – Tijuana region.

Two Artists, One Shared Experience

Fragmented Stories features new paintings by Emerging Artist Residency alumni Eden DeLaVara (San Diego) and Marcela Alarcón López (Tijuana). Both contributed to the Fragmented Stories Exhibition.

Both spent six months working from a studio inside Arts District Liberty Station. They developed work rooted in border identity, belonging, and the realities of creating amid social and political uncertainty. Moreover, their collaboration for the Fragmented Stories Exhibition stands out for exploring these important themes.

Meet the Artists at the Opening Reception

The free opening reception on March 12 is a chance to meet Eme, DeLaVara, and Alarcón López in person. You can also hear about their creative process during the Fragmented Stories Exhibition.

The exhibition runs through July 17, so there’s plenty of time to visit. However, the opening is where the conversation starts.

See you there!
