An’s Gelato Debuts New Del Mar Location, An’s Hatmakers

An’s Gelato, the acclaimed handcrafted gelato maker behind An’s Dry Cleaning in North Park, has officially debuted their second San Diego location in Del Mar Plaza – and we couldn’t be more excited!

An’s Gelato Debuts New Del Mar Location, An’s Hatmakers

No ordinary ice cream parlor!

It’s our bet that much of North County hasn’t been to An’s Dry Cleaning before, so they may not yet know how amazing of an addition An’s Hatmakers is to the Del Mar scene!

Named one of the top 10 ice cream parlors in America by USA Today, An’s Gelato has been featured in Forbes, Zagat, Lonely Planet and more and has received best of accolades from San Diego Magazine, Thrillist, Pacific Mag, and others.

Upon its 2018 opening, An’s Dry Cleaning quickly developed a cult-like following and appreciation among food media, gelato lovers and foodies in San Diego and beyond for its quality ingredients, unique flavor profiles, and handmade, European-trained approach to gelato making.

With this new location, An’s Hatmakers brings the brand’s signature handmade gelato and irreverently creative style to a 1,000 square foot gelato café in Del Mar, with elements of a classic haberdashery throughout, courtesy of interiors by Los Angeles-based designer, Sormeh Rienne.

Menu features both the classic and exclusive creations

An’s, known for its wildly creative and locally-sourced, ingredient-forward handmade gelato, will feature a classic menu at An’s Hatmakers with signature flavors such as “Canvas” (olive oil & rosemary) and “Leather” (brown butter & chocolate chip cookie) alongside new, Del Mar exclusive creations.

New creations include the “Newsboy”, a vanilla & white chocolate macadamia praline gelato made by roasting whole macadamia nuts to enhance their flavor and then caramelizing them into a praline that is added to a vanilla gelato base and layered with melted white chocolate; “Fez”, a signature spin on red velvet made with cream cheese, white chocolate, and beets; and “Panama”, an aromatic blend of cinnamon paired with cream cheese laced fresh challah, all named after hats and hat-related accouterments.

An’s Flavor Tour

The signature An’s Flavor Tour, starting with a taste of Tip of Your Hat, a mint julep-inspired palette cleanser, encourages guests to taste each flavor on the menu before choosing a Small or Large Bowler (cups) or handmade Party Hat (cone)*.

An’s Hatmakers will feature a monthly rotational menu alongside its classic menu, featuring seasonal and ingredient-inspired new recipes that source fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices and more at the peak of their freshness.

A subtly chic, European-inspired setting

Rienne, known for her work on numerous hospitality projects in Los Angeles as well as The Guild Hotel in San Diego, designed the space with a retro minimal style featuring pale cream walls in Portola Paint Roman Clay and custom stained wood elements throughout with custom work by San Diego-based WeldWood in the space’s 450 square feet front of house.

Shelves are adorned with a mix of classic and traditional hat styles, many inspired by the racetrack’s hat-loving culture and signature style and hat boxes serve as the menu board above the gelato bar.

Standing tables made of cast iron and wood line are a nod to a hatmaker’s atelier worktable and sit alongside one wall of the space while marble-topped café tables welcome guests to enjoy their gelato in a subtly chic, European-inspired setting that blends Del Mar’s classic style with inspiration from far beyond.

An’s Hatmakers is located at 1555 Camino Del Mar, suite 115 in Del Mar and is now open. For more information, visit the website here or follow them on Instagram.

See you there (a lot!), San Diego!
