Camino Books Finds a New Home at Del Mar Plaza

Exciting news for book lovers—Camino Books, a beloved independent bookstore in Del Mar, is moving to a brand-new home at Del Mar Plaza.

Known for its carefully curated selection and warm, welcoming atmosphere, the bookstore continues its tradition of community-focused bookselling in a fresh, thoughtfully designed space.

Camino Books

A Literary Staple in Del Mar

Originally launched in the Bay Area in 1989 and formerly known as Diesel, A Bookstore, Camino Books has been a go-to for avid readers and casual browsers alike since 2019. With this move, the bookstore builds on its legacy of exceptional curation, passionate bookselling, and outstanding customer service.

“We’re looking forward to this new beginning at Del Mar Plaza,” said John Evans, owner of Camino Books. “For us, bookstores are about more than just books—they’re about community, discovery, and connection. We’re excited to create a space where readers can explore, engage, and feel at home.”

A Bookstore Designed for Connection

Located on the Plaza’s street level, next to An’s Hatmakers, this 1,276-square-foot independent bookstore in Del Mar will feature an outdoor space for book signings, author readings, and community events.

Inside, you’ll find a carefully curated collection of literary fiction, thought-provoking nonfiction, children’s books, and hidden gems, all set in a space designed for quiet discovery and inspiration.

“The addition of Camino Books reflects our commitment to cultivating a dynamic and engaging destination at Del Mar Plaza,” said Plaza owner Patricia Brutten of Brixton Capital.

“We’ve wanted to add a bookstore for so long, and it was worth the wait to find the perfect partner. Camino Books brings a unique sense of place, and we look forward to inviting book lovers from across San Diego to discover a space where stories and people come together.”
